MTC Familiarization Programme For Lecturers - PART B

On the second day of our trip (5 July 2011), we were heading to Robin Resources (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. which is located at Mentakab, Pahang. The journey took about 3 and a half hours via East Coast Expressway. Actually, we were running a bit behind schedule so we took an alternative route by asking Nizam to deliver us to the Gombak toll plaza.

Thanks to our rally driver, Mr. Nizam for successfully delivered us just on time before the bus arrived. There were only 4 staff from PSA for today's visit, Shahril, Norjie, Razli (Acai), Kamal and Me (excluded from the picture below). The MTC's chartered bus arrived approximately after sicked and tired keep in waiting 30 minutes later.

We arrived at the factory at almost 11 o'clock in the morning. There, we were warm welcomed by the factory's management team. I'm so flattered for being welcomed so nice and friendly.

Briefing session.

After a short brief, we had a factory tour which began with the woodyard area. This area is the place of which wood resources from outside being unloaded from lorries and trailers and it claims a wide space of area for storage.

Wood yard area.

This factory consists of several huge block of manufacturing and the picture below is the first section inside one of their block hangar. This section  is the storage area for finished medium density fiberboard (MDF). The MDF are being wrapped up to prevent any moisture that capable on degrading the quality of end products.

Then, we were entering the dryer section. Here, we saw a huge machine at size of a hall with a series of roller dryer which aligned perpendicular to machine direction in action. The condition of this area is so hot and for anyone that love to have a free steam bath, feel free to do so without any hesitate.

Dryer section.

After walking besides the hot dryer section, we were cooled down by entering the controller room located in adjacent of the dryer. This controller room typically consumed two staffs to operate and surprisingly me and Kamal met our woodtech's super senior, Mr. Ahmad Zamurin whose one of the senior personnel here.

We moved to the next section to see the chip storage area which is located outside the building. At the section, we can clearly see a huge piles of wood chips being stored. Theoretically, outside storage exhibits a number of disadvantages compared to silo storage. But, as you can see here, the chip piles been stored with a concrete foundation to prevent any bio-degradation agents from attacking the cellulose content inside wood cells.

After a very fascinating factory tour, I took this opportunity to have a shot with Dr. Au Khuan Chen, factory's Technical Manager for commemoration.

Me and Dr. Au.

The generosity of Robin Resources is not just ended at the factory. Guess what? My glad to tell you that our group of visit has been cordially invited to have a special lunch at Rumah Rehat Temerloh cafeteria. Time to feed our empty stomach! What a surprise for a lunch, we were feasted by a popular main dish of Temerloh district, Patin Tempoyak (I didn't noticed that this dish is the favorite food of Dr. Liew Kang Chiang from UMS). What are we waiting for, go for it! Bon appetite!

All the meals running out clearly indicated that we are in a great hunger. Thanks to Robin Resources for the very delicious and alluring lunch. As usual, I took a photograph at the Rumat Rehat Temerloh car porch.

At the end of the visit, I personally address my thanks to Robin Resources for such a very nice and tremendous occasion. My thanks also extended to all factory's personnel that being so kind helping us in order to have a clear picture regarding the real industry experience of MDF's manufacturing process. I made a very short clip for my guests to see what really happened inside the MDF manufacturing plant below. TO BE CONTINUED..
